Russia's defense ministry blames an attack at the site of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine on Ukrainian saboteurs, calling it a monstrous provocation.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Konashenkov said on Friday that the Kiev regime committed a provocation on the territory that had already come under the control of the Russian military.

He said that a sabotage group that took refuge in a training complex outside the territory of the nuclear power plant opened fire on the servicemen of the Russian Guard who were patrolling the perimeter.

The firing points of the Ukrainian saboteurs in the building were suppressed by the return fire of the Russian patrol. Leaving the building, the Ukrainian sabotage group set fire to the training building.  The fire was subsequently extinguished, he said.

Russia says it is ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants.

The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Ukraine's nuclear safety.  Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Nebenja, said that Russia's goal is to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and prevent interruption of power supply.  At present, the relevant nuclear power plants and adjacent areas are protected by the Russian military, the operation of the nuclear power plants has not been interrupted, the facilities are operating normally, and the radiation conditions are normal.

Meanwhile, the US embassy in Kiev in a tweet accused Russia of shelling the nuclear plant.

Nuclear power is an important energy source for Ukraine. Ukraine has 4 nuclear power plants in operation, with a total of 15 nuclear reactors, providing about 50% of Ukraine's electricity needs.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is the largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine and one of the largest in Europe, and its power generation accounts for 25% of Ukraine's total power generation.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a Russian operation to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.

  1. The West, first with the help of Kiev Nazis and foreign mercenaries, staged a provocation near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, now they plan to blame Russia in order to stop the special operation. No, it won't work. Both sanctions and provocations against Russia are futile. Russia will fulfill all the assigned tasks of the special operation, no matter what.

  2. And let those countries that have imposed sanctions think how to pay us. After all, we, in many respects, began to make goods ourselves. And what we don't do, we buy mainly from China. And China did not support the sanctions. So the US and the EU are much more dependent on us than we are on them.
