A glimpse of the Straw Hat Pirates in the new trailer of Netflix's ONE PIECE Live-Action Series

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the popular manga series "One Piece" is set to premiere on Netflix on August 31, 2023. The series, produced by Tomorrow Studios, will cover the East Blue arc from the original manga, where the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, embarks on his journey as a pirate.
The official trailer for the series has been released, offering fans a glimpse into the world of "One Piece". The trailer showcases the adventures of a group of young pirates led by Monkey D. Luffy, played by Mexican actor Iñaki Godoy. Other key cast members include Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. These characters form the core team of the Straw Hat Pirates, who embark on a thrilling journey to the Grand Line in search of the legendary treasure, One Piece.

The series' creator, Eiichiro Oda, has been deeply involved in the production of the live-action adaptation, serving as an executive producer. He has expressed his commitment to ensuring that the show remains true to his original vision, even requesting reshoots of certain scenes he felt were not up to standard.
In addition to the English version, the Japanese dub of the live-action series will feature the original anime voice actors reprising their roles, including Mayumi Tanaka as Monkey D. Luffy, Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, Akemi Okamura as Nami, and Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji.

The series, which has been in development since 2020, is a joint American-Japanese production led by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda. The first season of the series will consist of ten episodes, each with a unique title, and will cover the East Blue arc from the original manga. The production of the series, which took place in Cape Town, South Africa, was initially delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed in March 2021 and was completed by August 2022. The series is reported to be one of Netflix's most expensive productions, with a budget of around $18 million per episode.
The release of the live-action series marks a significant milestone for "One Piece", which debuted in the Weekly Shōnen Jump anthology magazine on July 22, 1997. Over the past 26 years, the manga has been adapted into a long-running anime series, 15 animated films, and 40 video games, garnering a dedicated global fanbase.
