Hurricane Ida devastation Hurricane Ida has well and truly arrived now bringing 240 kilometer an hour winds and chaos to Louisiana.  President Biden warned the public this is a life threatening storm and the devastation is likely to be a mess. Now we look to the future.  At Tesla's AI day event, Elon Musk announced they are developing Tesla Bot, a humanoid robot, life size. It's a slim human-like machine.  The body is white with gray accents from its feet to where its collarbones would be then it's all black. Musk shared a couple of slides showing what to expect from the Tesla Bot.  He assures that his creation will be friendly and navigate a world that's built for humans. We'd be looking at a five foot eight robot, weighing only 125 pounds since it is built out of undisclosed lightweight materials. It will be able to carry 45 pounds or deadlift a 150 pounds.  A little bit of reassurance is that the Tesla bot is not fast. It reaches speeds of up to 5 miles per hour. Musk joked that you could actually run away from it and if necessary overpower it. Haiti Earthquake (Video Screengrab) On a sunny Saturday morning, Haiti was jolted awake into scenes of pure horror.  A 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the south of the country at about 8:30 local time in the morning in Haiti on Saturday (Aug. 14). The epicenter was about 160 kilometers west of the capital Port-Au-Prince.  The U.S geological survey has issued a red alert for the likelihood of high fatalities and widespread disaster for the Caribbean country.   At least nine aftershocks rocking the island in the hour since the quake, collapsing a cathedral steeple in the city of Jeremy. People running into the streets out of fear their homes could collapse.  Hospitals overwhelmed with the injured people being treated outside.   More than 200 already confirmed dead and hundreds were injured and missing. Manila lockdown Manila has returned to lockdown, it's third since the pandemic began. The lockdown comes in response to a huge surge in infections blamed mostly on the Delta variant of the virus. With more than 1.6 million coronavirus cases and more than 28,000 deaths, the Philippines has the second worst outbreak in Southeast Asia after Indonesia. For two weeks only essential businesses will be allowed to open in the capital region, an urban sprawl of 16 cities and home to 13 million people, as the threat of the Delta variant persists.  A curfew begins at 8pm.  Financial problems and the possibility of contracting Covid-19 are the main concerns. Those who are not permitted to work can get limited financial help from the state.  There was chaos and confusion at vaccination sites in Manila as thousands rushed to get their jabs before the lockdown kicked in.
