Hurricane Ida has well and truly arrived now bringing 240 kilometer an hour winds and chaos to Louisiana.  President Biden warned the public this is a life threatening storm and the devastation is likely to be a mess.

They were warned to prepare but how do you prepare for this?  Ida is the most powerful storm ever to hit the U.S.  Hurricane Ida will continue to bring high winds and rainfall to Mississippi and Louisiana after making landfall yesterday.

The storm striking on the same date Hurricane Katrina ravaged Louisiana and Mississippi 16 years earlier killing more than 1800 people and causing billions of dollars worth of damage. However, Ida is even stronger, a category 4 storm at its peak.

No one in New Orleans needs any reminder of the awesome power a hurricane can bring. The streets of the place they called The Big Easy battered by a storm that remained at category 4 over land for six hours.

Several homes and businesses along the gulf coast are without power.  Storm surges are reaching up to 16 feet.  The National Hurricane Centre described it as a catastrophic storm surge.  Areas of Louisiana and Mississippi have been evacuated.

Right now, Hoosiers are stepping in to help areas impacted by Hurricane Ida.  Several groups are preparing and already working for several days of rescue and relief.
