Manila Bay's White Sand Beach Temporarily Opens to the Public Today and Tomorrow
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources opened Manila Bay to the public today to see and take a selfie on its new face full of white sand in conjunction with the International Coastal Clean Up Day.
In his short speech, DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu said that he is proud that their agency is the lead agency for the said project.
That is why it is grateful to all those who support Manila Bay rehabilitation especially the placement of dolomite sand where it will attract many tourists which in turn can help the economic growth from the pandemic.
According to Cimatu, he asked Manila Mayor “Isko Moreno” Domagoso to build two modern comfort rooms and the old comfort room will be turned into a “souvenir shop” so that Manila Bay vendors can sell and not lose occupation.
The secretary added that the biggest concern now that the agency is making is behavioral change and cultural change so that people know how to properly dispose of waste.
DILG Usec Epimaco Densing said that their agency supports the DENR project because what they are doing is connected to the economy.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III pointed out that he did not expect to see Manila Bay look like that.
"One day Manila Bay back to each old glory," said Bello.
Members of the Lions Clubs International District 301-A2 Philippines also led the activity led by District Governor Benny Antiporda, 2PMJF; MMDA Chairman General Danilo Lim, representatives of the Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Tourism, National Economic and Development Authority and other government agencies.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso came and pleaded with the critics of the dolomite white sand not to involve Manila in politics.
"Many thanks to dolomite, the city of Manila is being talked about and promoted."
This is the joke of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso who was one of the main guests of honor at the “International Coastal Cleanup 2020” held in Manila Bay today.
According to Domagoso, this occasion is a very special thing for all Manilans because the cleaning of the said bay has been ignored for decades.
The mayor thanked President Rodrigo Duterte as well as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) led by Sec. Roy Cimatu because they ended the long-standing problem regarding garbage piled up in Manila Bay that was allegedly just shrugged off by previous administrations.
Domagoso called on the Manilans as well as the immigrants in the city that if you come clean where you are going to Manila, you also leave clean. He said let us be responsible citizens of our city.
"Help, unity, understanding and concern for others are what Manila Bay reminds us of," Domagoso told the public.
According to DENR Usec Benny Antiporda, Manila Bay will be open to the public until this afternoon at 6 pm and it will reopen tomorrow at 5 am to 6 pm.
After that, Manila Bay will be closed to the public again to end the dolomite installation of 500 meters.
According to Usec Antiporda, 120 x 60 meters or the equivalent of 7,200 square meters has been completed.
It is said that there is still 390 meters to follow and that is phase 2 so in total there are 3 hectares or about 30,000 square meters will be dumped by dolomite.
"Our white beach is so big and looking forward that the people will like it," said Antiporda.
At the said event, social distancing was strictly enforced on the attendees and the police were on the lookout to sue those who violated health protocols.
