'Poltergeist' Sequel: 80s Classic Horror Movie is in Development

Horror movies seem to bring new surprises, as a new Poltergeist movie could be in the works, at least that's what Daniel Richtman, a popular American film specialist reporter, pointed out.

Although he has not shared further details in addition to stating said news, according to information from We Got This Covered, a source has confirmed that this is true and although the details of the plot are still incomplete, they indicate that it will act as a sequel to the original films.

The 1982 Poltergeist is considered a classic of the horror genre, which shouldn't be surprising given the talent involved. Tobe Hooper of ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ directed the supernatural film, while Steven Spielberg initially wanted to be behind the camera but was unable to due to a contractual problem. Still, he remained on board as a very involved producer and co-writer of the script.

When it was released, Poltergeist recovered the $ 10 million production budget a dozen times at the box office, as well as garnering rave reviews and garnering three Oscar nominations. Inevitably, a franchise was born, although it suffered greatly from the law of diminishing returns with the aftermath of 1986 and 1988.

Like virtually every other major horror brand, a reboot hit theaters many years later, in 2015, but was dismissed as little more than an homage to the original rather than a good movie in its own right, despite a talented cast which included Sam Rockwell and Jared Harris. Gil Kenan's Poltergeist still did a solid, if unspectacular business, but another entry didn't seem like a priority for the studio.
