Thailand Protests: ‘State of Emergency’ Declared in Thailand; New Law, Prohibiting Gatherings

The Thai government has now issued emergency measures that further restrict gatherings.  The enactment of the new law is also in the midst of peaceful large-scale protest actions in downtown Bangkok, Thailand.

The Thai government has now issued emergency measures that further restrict gatherings.


The enactment of the new law is also in the midst of peaceful large-scale protest actions in downtown Bangkok, Thailand.


Such actions include leading students calling on their prime minister to resign, reduce their monarchy and form a new constitution.


Strict law prohibits five or more gatherings.


Media gag also operates like posting on online meassages that could damage their national security.


Following the announcement of emergency measures, information surfaced that three protesting leaders had been arrested.


Among those arrested were human rights lawyer Anon Nampa, student activist Parit Chiwarak or alias “Penguin” and a man named Panusaya Sithijirawattanakul.


Meanwhile, riot police have also taken action to disperse protesters in front of the prime minister's office.


The demonstration was against Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former junta leader.


The call for reform is about their monarchy led by King Maha Vajiralongkorn.


"It is extremely necessary to introduce an urgent measure to end this situation effectively and promptly to maintain peace and order," part of the announcement on their state television.
