This October 31, the day that many countries celebrate Halloween, the rare cosmic phenomenon known as the 'blue moon' can be observed at night.

According to astronomers, it will take 19 years for this event, which is repeated every 2.5 years, to coincide with this holiday again.

Despite its name, the astronomical event has nothing to do with the actual color of the natural satellite as it is perceived from Earth. Actually, the name 'blue moon', is only used to designate a second full moon in the same month.

In this case, the first full moon in October took place on the 1st, and, as this month has 31 days and the lunar cycle is 29.5, this weekend an additional full moon will creep in.

The last time this cosmic phenomenon occurred was in 2018, and it is estimated that until 2023 it will not happen again.
