The American Music Awards (AMA) awarded the best in music this Sunday from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, United States. The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch lead the event's nominations competing in eight categories each.

The American Music Awards (AMA) awarded the best in music this Sunday from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, United States. The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch lead the event's nominations competing in eight categories each.

 

Taylor Swift won Artist of the Year.  Though Swift won the show's top honor, it was The Weeknd who dominated with multiple wins.

The Weeknd (real nameAbel Makkonen Tesfaye), who appears with bizarrely bandaged face, took home the trophies for Favourite Male Artist – Soul/R&B, Favourite Album – Soul/R&B, and Favourite Song – Soul/R&B. Bieber, meanwhile, picked up Collaboration Of The Year, Favourite Male Artist – Pop/Rock and Favourite Song – Country. 

 

The biggest news of all was announced by Taylor Swift. She is currently rerecording all of her old music amid her very public feud with Scooter Braun over the masters of her first six albums.

The biggest news of all was announced by Taylor Swift.  She is currently rerecording all of her old music amid her very public feud with Scooter Braun over the masters of her first six albums.

She said:  "I'm re-recording all my music, and it's been amazing, and I can't wait for you to hear it."

Taraji P. Henson was responsible for presenting the event. Among the main performances at AMA are the South Korean group BTS, Dua Lipa, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Maluma,Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Megan Thee Stallion, as well as the unexpected duet of The Weeknd and Kenny G. 

This in-person ceremony aired on ABC was wildly socially distanced with cardboard cutouts of Beyonce, Jay Z, Dolly Parton and others.
 

Justin Bieber opened the awards singing Lonely, in partnership with Benny Blanco. He sang two more songs: Holy and Monster, the last in partnership with Shawn Mendes. The track is part of the singer's next album, Wonder.

The Weeknd won the Favorite Soul / R & B Album Award, the first category announced for the night. He dedicated the award to singer Prince. "The last time I received this award was at the hands of the late Prince, he is the reason I always want to challenge myself within this genre of R&B, and I wanted to dedicate this award to him", thanked the singer.

After being awarded, The Weeknd went to downtown Los Angeles for a presentation full of fireworks alongside Kenny G.


Then Katy Perry took the stage to do a special duet with Darius Rucker in Only Love. The voice and guitar presentation brought an intimate atmosphere to the awards.

Megan Thee Stallion received a standing ovation on stage. She presented Body, single from her debut album Good News. The rapper and singer is considered one of the revelations of the world of music in 2020.

Doja Cat won new artist of the year and Becky G won favorite female Latin artist, a brand new category at the AMAs.

This year, BTS is once again fighting to hang onto their Favorite Social Artist prize, and is again nominated for the Favorite Duo or Group award. They will also perform their new song "Life Goes On" off their latest album Be.

BTS, the K-pop band — made up of members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook closed the show with a performance of their songs “Life Goes On” and “Dynamite,” and they also won both of their nominations as Favorite Social Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Duo or Group. To date, the Korean boy band has never lost at the AMAs when nominated.

House Approves Marcos Day (September 11) in Ilocos Norte

President Ferdinand Marcos The House of Representatives has approved in the third and final reading the law declaring September 11 as a special non-working holiday in the province of Ilocos Norte in commemoration of the birthday of former President Ferdinand Marcos. According to the report, House Bill 7137 was approved by a vote of 197 on Yes, 9 No and an abstention which set the said date as “President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Day” in Ilocos Norte.  Ilocos Norte Representatives Angelo Marcos Barba and Ria Fariñas, and Probinsyano Ako party-list Representative Rudys Caesar Fariñas authored the measure. “For the people of Ilocos Norte, the young and promising Marcos has brought pride to the province and served as inspiration for young leaders to exemplify his leadership and governance administration,” said the Fariñas siblings. Nancy   While Momoland's Nancy is being damaged by illegally manipulated photos, the agency has taken a tough response. Nancy's agency, MLD Entertainment, said in an official statement,  “Recently, illegally manipulated photos related to our artist Nancy are being distributed online and on social media. "We will take a strong legal action against anyone who distributes it," it said. According to reports, a staff member took a photo of Nancy while she was undressing.  The incident happened in 2019 when Nancy attended the ‘2019 Asia Artist Awards in Vietnam,’ wherein she was the MC.  The said photo leaked online.
