Blackpink and baby panda Fu Bao: Blackpink's contact with Fu Bao causes controvery among Chinese and South Korean netizens.
The popular Korean girl group BLACKPINK recently broadcast a trailer from their variety show "24/365 with BLACKPINK" that has caused controversy among Chinese and Korean netizens!
BLACKPINK members came into contact three-month-old cub Fu Bao at a South Korean zoo. Although they wore masks, gloves and protective clothing, they were criticized by Chinese netizens for violating Chinese regulations.
Due to the controversy, YG Entertainment decided to not release the last episode of "24/365 with BLACKPINK" after baby panda controversy.
"24/365 with BLACKPINK" is a group variety show produced by YG Entertainment for BLACKPINK. In the trailer released earlier, the four members were excited to go to the zoo as a "one-day panda breeder" and prepare food for the pandas. Everyone also took steps to put on protective clothing, masks and gloves, and picked up the 100-day-old panda Fu Bao.
Chinese netizens lashed out against BLACKPINK, saying that they violated Chinese regulations and should not make contact with pandas, and that some members own pet dogs and cat in their homes putting the panda at risk of harm. Others said the girls wore too much make-up and touched the panda's mother without wearing masks and gloves.
They also pointed out that these behaviors may cause pandas to get sick. "If you don't protect the panda properly, you should return the national treasure to China," some Chinese netizens said.
Increasingly used as the emblem of China, the cuddly and lovable giant panda lives nowhere else in the world outside captivity. The giant panda is on the WWF logo and is known as a "national treasure" in China.
Fu Bao is the first panda born in South Korea. Fu Bao's parents, seven-year-old female Ai Bao and eight-year-old male Le Bao, arrived in 2016 from China's Sichuan province, the home of giant pandas, as part of China's “panda diplomacy”.
Chinese media also reported that the China Wildlife Conservation
Association has sent a letter to the South Korean "Everland Zoo"
involved in the incident, accusing them of violating the professional
requirements of giant panda protection.
YG Entertainment therefore decided not to broadcast this episode of the controversial group, but stated that it was filmed "with the participation of professional veterinarians and breeders, and strictly abided by epidemic prevention management and hygiene rules.
"When BLACKPINK saw the panda, they all wear sanitary gloves, masks, and protective clothing, and they disinfect their hands and shoes when changing scenes,” they said.
South Korean netizens were very dissatisfied with the controversy, saying that YG and BLACKPINK had done nothing wrong: "They all followed the instructions of the breeder, that is, the expert."
Some netizens also found photos of other people touching pandas without gloves and criticized: "Chinese artists do not wear gloves, foreign prime ministers do not wear gloves, and the Chinese brokerage company did not let Song Hye-kyo wear gloves. Why are you only crazy about BLACKPINK?"
Some people also said that BLACKPINK and BTS were found by Chinese netizens because of their high popularity: "They deliberately caused controversy and turned people who like KPOP into traitors."
Last month, BTS was criticized and insulted for making remarks about the Korean War. Some of the products they endorsed in the Mainland have to be removed from the shelves.
