Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior figures from the ruling party have been detained in a raid by the military.
According to Reuters, Monday, Myo Nyunt, a spokesman for the country's governing national league for democracy, said the leaders including Suu Kyi had been "taken in the early hours of the morning."
He said he wants citizens to act according to the law adding he also expects to detained.
"I want to tell our people not to respond rashly and I want them to act according to the law,"
Myo Nyunt said.
This comes as tensions rise between the civilian government and the military steering fears of a coup.
The ruling party won the majority in the parliament in November but the army is claiming the vote was fraudulent.
