South Korea sets its eyes on space travel but only through its film 'Space Sweepers'  which will be available for online streaming Netflix beginning February 5.

From Big Boss to hit Korean drama 'Descendants of the Sun', Korean Superstar Song Joong-ki will play another role.

Joong-ki will play the role of Tae-ho, a pilot of a spaceship called The Victory which collects space junk and debri they can sell to make money.

At a virtual presscon, the 'Descendants of the Sun' actor admitted that he had not read the whole script but he immediately agreed to their reunion project of director Jo Sung-hee who also directed  'A Werewolf Boy'  the blockbuster movie he starred in.

"When I worked with the director on 'A Werewolf Boy' I actually heard back then way back then that he was planning to create this kind of a space sci-fi movie and I thought it would be really interesting and amazing, and after decades literally he proposed to this role."

The setting of the film is futuristic in the year 2092 .  Joong-ki's crewmates are Kim Tae-ri who will play Captain Jang, Jin Seon-Kyu as Tiger Park, and Yoo Hai-jin as humanoid robot Bubs.

They discover a humanoid robot named Dorothy that’s known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal and their one of a kind space adventure begins.

Dubbed as the first Korean Space blockbuster, the realistic visual effects and computer graphics used in the movie is one they said can be really  proud of.

'The Hobbit' actor Richard Armitage will play the villain as James Sullivan.

The sci-fi film was scheduled to open in theaters last year but the release was postponed due to the pandemic.

This is Song's first on-screen appearance following a divorce with 'Descendants of the Sun' leading lady Song Hye-kyo.
