Philippines starts Covid-19 vaccination today with China-donated Sinovac vaccines
The Philippines officially launched its coronavirus vaccination on March 1. Many government officials and front-line medical workers took the lead on the same day to receive the CoronaVac vaccine by Sinovac.
Dr. Gerardo Legazpi, the Director of the Philippine General Hospital, received the first shot of the vaccine, becoming the first COVID-19 vaccine recipient in the Philippines which marks the official start of the country’s COVID-19 vaccination.
On the same day, the Philippine government's Covid-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., and other officials were also vaccinated.
On February 28, the Sinovac vaccines donated by China to the Philippines arrived in Manila. This was the first batch of new coronavirus vaccines that the Philippines ushered in. It took less than 24 hours from the arrival of the vaccine to the start of vaccination in the Philippines.
According to the plan of the Philippine government, groups such as medical workers, military personnel, police, and high-risk groups will be vaccinated first.
