National ID registration: PhilSys opens Step 1 online to public April 30

Online registration for the national ID system will begin on Friday, April 30.  Applicants are encouraged to register online through the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) portal, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced.

The PhilSys ID will provide Filipinos and foreign residents valid proof of identity through collection of demographic data of all applicants.

Step 1 registration process of PhilSys through the online portal involves the collection of information, including full name, gender, date, and place of birth, blood type, and address. Secure an appointment for Step 2 using the online registration portal.

Step 2 process involves going to registration centers to capture your biometrics (fingerprint, iris scan, front-facing photograph) and validation of supporting documents.

Step 3 is the Issuance of PhilSys Number (PSN) and Philippine Identification Card (PhilID card) which will be delivered to your address.

The National ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrolment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It will also boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present the PhilID during transactions.

National Economic Development Authority (Neda) chief Karl Chua believes that the national ID system will help expedite the vaccination program as well as the delivery of financial aid at the height of the lockdown.

He added that such a system will also help low-income families to open their bank accounts.
