Party's Over: Will Smith Banned from Oscars for 10 Years for Slapping Chris Rock at Oscars
Hollywood actor Will Smith has been banned from attending any Oscar ceremony for the next decade. The Oscar winner slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife and her alopecia.
Smith proceeded to walk up to the stage, slap Chris Rock, and then yelled at him to keep his wife's name out of his mouth after returning to his seat.
And after a night of celebrations Smith also apologized on social media to Chris Rock and all the viewers saying violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive, and resigned from The Academy.
Smith gets to keep Best Actor Award trophy for 'King Richard' collected in the moment after the slap but wont be welcome to collect another one until 2032.
The academy announced a formal review which was initially set for April 18th but they pushed up when Smith announced that he was resigning from the academy.
The Board of Governors met in Los Angeles ruling that "for a period of 10 years Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs."
The Oscar Board thanked Chris Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances.
Will Smith says he accepts and respects the Academy's decision. While the long term impact on his career remains to be seen several of his projects have already been delayed and he wont be stepping on the red carpet until 2032.
