David Corenswet, a 29-year-old American actor hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been announced as the new Superman by DC Studios.
This casting decision marks a significant milestone in Corenswet's career, as he steps into one of the most iconic roles in film history. The actor will be portraying the superhero in the upcoming movie "Superman: Legacy," directed by James Gunn.
Corenswet's journey to this high-profile role has been marked by a series of notable performances. After graduating from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City in 2016, he began his acting career with guest appearances on television series such as "House of Cards." He then landed lead roles in Netflix series "The Politician" and "Hollywood," both created by Ryan Murphy. In 2022, he starred in films like "Look Both Ways" and "Pearl," and the HBO miniseries "We Own This City."
Interestingly, Corenswet had expressed his ambition to play Superman in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly, acknowledging his striking resemblance to Henry Cavill, the last actor to portray the character. His dream has now come true, as he prepares to bring a fresh take to the storied series.
Alongside Corenswet, actress Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane in "Superman: Legacy," marking a new era for the franchise as it moves on from the Snyder Henry Cavill/Amy Adams era. The film is set to launch the DC Universe (DCU) and is scheduled for release in 2025.
In addition to his acting career, Corenswet has also shown interest in directing, inspired by the likes of Olivia Wilde and Bradley Cooper. He is known for his love for dogs and old movies, having grown up watching classics like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films, and 'Singin' in the Rain.' Despite his rising fame, Corenswet maintains a relatively low-key social media presence, with less than 40 posts on his Instagram account, several of which feature him with dogs.
