The social media landscape has been shaken up with the recent rebranding of Twitter, a popular platform known for its iconic bird logo and unique culture. The tech billionaire Elon Musk, who purchased Twitter in 2022, has renamed the platform to X.com and replaced the bird logo with a stylized version of the 24th letter of the Latin alphabet. This change was announced late on Sunday and by Monday, X logos were being projected in Twitter's San Francisco headquarters. Even the conference rooms were renamed with words containing 'X', such as "eXposure," "eXult," and "s3Xy."
This rebranding is part of Musk's strategy to create an "everything app" similar to China's WeChat. WeChat, a Chinese super-app developed by Tencent, has become an integral part of life in China. which combines various features like video chats, messaging, streaming, and payments. The move also marks a shift for the company after a volatile year of layoffs, unpopular changes to the platform, and users and advertisers leaving the platform.
Despite the name change, the platform still invites users to "tweet," maintaining the essence of its original identity. However, the bird logo is being phased out in favor of the new X logo. The website X.com now redirects to Twitter.com, and the bird logo has started to be removed from the company's San Francisco headquarters.

Musk's decision to rebrand Twitter to X is not entirely surprising, given his history with the letter 'X'. He founded an online bank called X.com in 1999, which later merged with another company to become PayPal. He even bought back the X.com domain from PayPal in 2017. The letter 'X' has been a recurring theme in Musk's businesses, products, and personal life, including SpaceX, the Tesla Model X, and even the name of one of his children with Grimes, X Æ A-12.
The rebranding also includes new features added to Twitter. With the help of the new Twitter Blue feature, subscribers can edit tweets, upload 1080p videos, and get a reader mode. They can also change their handle, display name, or profile photo, although their verification checkmarks will temporarily be taken away.
While the rebranding has sparked a buzz on the internet, it remains to be seen how this change will impact the platform's user base and overall performance in the social media market.
Musk's relationship with Twitter dates back to June 2010 when he published his first tweet. By April 2022, he had amassed over 80 million followers. Despite his controversial tweets, which have included conspiracy theories and comments deemed discriminatory by critics, Musk remains unapologetic. He has stated that he will continue to express his views freely, even if it results in financial loss.
