Lisa, a member of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, has recently faced significant challenges on Chinese social media. Her personal account on Weibo, a platform often likened to Twitter in China, was suspended, causing her images and posts to disappear from the site.

The username "lalalalisa_m" that she used on Weibo was changed to "user7330454276," and her follower's list, which previously boasted eight million followers, vanished without a trace. This suspension also extended to her Baidu fan club account, indicating a widespread impact on her online presence in China.

The suspension of Lisa's Weibo account is believed to be linked to her recent performance at the Crazy Horse nightclub in Paris.

The Thai rapper, singer, and dancer, born as Lalisa Manobal, performed a burlesque routine that sparked controversy among Chinese netizens.

Critics argued that her performance potentially glamorized cabaret as a form of high art, distorting ongoing dialogues about gender and morality in China. Some even accused Lisa of objectifying herself to appeal to the Western male gaze.

The Crazy Horse nightclub, renowned for its audacious and brazen performances, is known for its dancers performing in minimal attire, often obscured by light and shadow.

Lisa's performance there ignited a debate on sexualization and female liberation in China. The controversy escalated when rumors circulated that Chinese actresses Angelababy and Zhang Jiani attended Lisa's Paris shows, leading to restrictions on their social media accounts as well.

While Lisa's fellow BLACKPINK members, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé, who did not participate in the Crazy Horse performances, still have access to their Weibo accounts, Lisa's suspension has been seen by some as a positive step in internet regulation. However, it has undoubtedly affected her ability to connect with her fans in China, marking a significant moment in her career.
